Reggae music's best kept secret has finally been revealed in the person of Douglas Avery Simpson, better known as Dougie Simpson or "SIMA". A native of Brooklyn, New York of Jamaican and Virgin Island parentage, Dougie has been a singer, songwriter, bandleader, producer, recording artist and performer since 1985.
In 1999, Dougie Simpson joined The Flex Crew where he has been a featured singer for 14 years. In addition he performs with his own backing band, the Faith Band, bringing "unapologetic roots and culture" and "natural vibes" to the people. Dougie also regularly performs with Skarob and Fundamental Sound, adding to his ever-expanding list of collaborations. Simpson's soulful delivery covers subjects ranging from insightful social commentary ("People A Go Talk"), uplifting spiritual roots ("No Weapon and Seven"), to steamy lover's rock ("Push And Come Ova"), with a sound that has been compared to the late great Dennis Brown.
His latest release on his own Chilly Pepper Records "Code For Survival" is a collaboration with Skarob from 2014, and follows the re-release of his late 80's underground 12" "Rumors / Worthy Is The Lamb".
